Grunnlovsdag (17th of May)

Tuesday was the 17th of May which is Norway’s national day. On this day the country commemorates the day on which it got it’s first constitution in 1814. It is a day of national pride and it is taken very seriously by most, although some Norwegians will admit that they would rather spend the time in the mountains. (more…)

A trip into the mountains

The girls were still off school this week, so we took advantage to have a little trip into the hills and inspect one of the many mountain huts. We had chosen to the Træet Hytte on Osterøy, which is only 1km away from the carpark. Most of the other huts are high up in the mountains and are still very hard to reach this time of year, given all the snow that hasn’t melted yet.  Another advantage of this hut is that there is a lot to do for the kids around the hut, which includes the use of boats and canoos, swings, trees to climb etc… (more…)
